The Hertfordshire Housing Conference promotes the development of high quality affordable housing across Hertfordshire. The conference was first held in 1999 when Kerry Pollard, MP for St Albans from 1997 to 2005, had the idea of bringing together everyone involved in providing and managing affordable housing in Hertfordshire.
The aim was to discuss and debate how more homes could be built to meet the very high levels of housing need he was encountering in his constituency work. Working initially with sponsorship from Aldwyck and Hightown housing associations, the first conference was a great success and became an annual event attracting high profile speakers including Housing Ministers Nick Raynsford, Hilary Armstrong, Charles Falconer and Yvette Cooper. The conference has also been very well supported by the Homes and Community Agency. Hertfordshire Housing Conference Ltd has the following members:
Life Build Solutions Ltd
Watford Community Housing
Shelagh Grant, CEO of The Housing Forum
As many of you know, Hertfordshire Housing Conference (HHC) had hoped to host a 2021 Conference at the Fielder Centre in May, which had been deferred from last year. However, given the continuing uncertainty around Covid and social distancing we have decided to defer this year’s conference as well, and have rearranged it for Tuesday 10th May 2022. As we want to continue our engagement with the housing sector we now plan to run 4 Webinars during 2021 instead. Our third one will be held on Monday 4th October and will focus on Resident Involvement.
We’ll be hearing from Kate Dodsworth, Director of Consumer Regulation, the Regulator for Social Housing and Catherine Ryder, Director of Policy and Research at the National Housing Federation. The discussion will centre around the relationship between social housing providers and their residents, and what can be done to improve both the services provided and how they're delivered. Kate and Catherine will discuss what they think the future might look like and will take questions afterwards, and hopefully we’ll be able to have an exchange of ideas that could transform the social housing sector.
I hope you’ll be able to join us – it promises to be an interesting and uplifting event. You can register your details here
Annual Conference 2019
Our last Conference 14th May 2019 and was attended by over 120 delegates, with speakers including Lord Best, Chair of the Affordable Housing Commission.
The Conference for 2020 was scheduled to reach a larger audience, with Lord Kerslake, former Permanent Secretary for Communities and Local Government, as our main speaker. Unfortunately, with the advent of COVID-19 this, along with other planned events, was cancelled. However, we are hopeful that we’ll be back in May 2021 with a similar agenda which will additionally address some of the new challenges faced by the Housing industry going forwards.
